Using a minimally invasive laminectomy, the location of the incision is often established by an intraoperative X-ray, using fluoroscopy. A skin incision about 1 inch in length is made to one side of the middle of the back at the surgical level. Dilators are placed sequentially to split the muscle down to the lamina, the back part of the spine. In contrast to traditional open back surgery that r...

Urine retention after my surgery
I had this surgery last week. The first 24hours after I was in a lot of pain. I was told this was unusual. I’m now 7 days post surgery and I can tell the issue has been fixed 100%. I am terrified of surgery and still am. But honestly I am so happy I went for this operation. I can have my life back!
I had this done a few days ago. To those who are suffering from sciatica get the surgery done. I woke up after surgery and almost cried because i was laying down on my back and not feeling any pain. I got up to go toilet later in the evening and i knew the pain had fully gone and the only pain i was feelimg was from my incision spot. 6 days post op and im feeling stronger everyday and guess what?...no leg pain!.. No butt pain..no sleeping pain..no walking pain..just get it done trust me.
I'm having this done on the eleventh
How did it go? How was the pain afterwards
That back portion of the vertebrae that gets removed ? Do they not cover or fuse those with plates? Does the bone need to be replaced? Wouldn't it make the vertebrae weaker?
Hello UA-camrs, I am sharing my story hoping it will help someone. What they don’t tell you in these videos is that endoscopic surgery is NOT covered by health insurance (in the United States). I had to pay $30K for my procedure (May 2024). However it was more than worth it. I had to acquire the funds from my retirement account. Borrow the money if you need, you will be glad you did. Immediately after surgery, I was instantly and fully healed with no recovery time. Nor did I need any pain medication afterwards at all, whatsoever. It was money well spent.
If yoy dont mind me asking, how long did yoy have a herniation of your disc? How long was ther surgery and where did you go? I am an electrician. Herniated two discs in my lower back. Theyve suggested doing a microdiskectomy on my back, but i am 1) concerned as I am in my early 30s 2) worried about surgery and 3) worried it may re-herniate, which supposedly, can happen. Thank you for sharing your story
@@ldonnell5179 I am happy to answer your questions. The first time I experienced sciatic pain was in Oct 2023. I got an epidural in November 2023 which stopped the pain. However an epidural does not decompress the nerve, and the pain came back in Feb 2024. It slowly got worse and worse until in April I was bed ridden and I had to use crutches to walk. The pain was so severe I could not sleep at night. I was prescribed very strong opiate pain killers which had no effect. The surgery was very quick. I was in the surgery center at 6:00 am and was home by 11:00 am. Of course there was the drive time, and the first hour was just the surgery prep, taking off clothes, putting on the gown, etc. I went to the Desert Spine Center in Mesa AZ and saw Dr. Baig. Immediately after the surgery I was completely free from pain. There was no downtime needed for recovery. That afternoon I took a walk around the neighborhood. Of course I was walking a bit slow. There was no incision, nor were any of the muscles in the back disturbed. There is no scar, only a small bump where the endoscope went in, which will disappear in a year. (my hernia scar is still very prominent) Do not do open spine surgery! Don’t do it! Otherwise you will have to take so may pain killers afterwards and you may have to spend a few days in the hospital. Don’t put the surgery off. Endoscopic is the only way to go. With regard to re-herniation, Dr. Baig said it happens in about 10% of the time. Good luck to you. Let me know if you have any more questions.
On second fusion because the first one failed and they gave me a laminectomy this time, def hoping for better results. I have a very high pain tolerance and can tell you that spinal fusion is the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced in life. Had a dural tear and could not stop filling up those drains in the hospital, boy. 44 staples this time and five weeks in rehab. If you have to get a fusion be prepared for PAIN, they love to downplay how insanely painful this op is.
Herniating a disc was the worst thing that ever happened to me. Having back surgery was emotionally traumatic. I felt so alone and scared. That was 2019. I am now pain free and living a normal life. YOU can get there too! You will not be stuck in this pain forever!
I'm dealing with this condition currently and yes you're right, this is one of the worst things that could happen. I'm scared to get the surgery but it's looking like that's my only option at this point. Wish me luck! I'm glad you're living a normal life again and pain free!! 🤞🏾❤️
@@rashodsewell1022 Good luck! I have several positive stories of recovery on my channel if you need some encouragement.
Posterior fusion L3-5
Had this done three days ago. I've been in more pain than I was when I was originally injured a year ago. I'm constantly icing it and have to take a pill of 5mg hydrocodone and 325mg acetaminophen every four hours and nothing helps. I have a very high pain tolerance, but this has been unbearable. Haven't slept more than about five hours in the last three days because there's no position that's not extremely painful. I can't even walk with my cane more than a couple of inches at a time.
This sounds dreadful... I'm having next week I'm going to cancel
Did the surgeon do the wrong side or cut into the protective sheath and is now leaking? I hope you're alright!
All well and good just don’t let dr Perry from sparks nevada do anything …
I had this surgery 70 days ago My pain is fluctuating sometimes feel gud nd sometimes like hell... Not able to get up off bed
hello, wondering if they seal the ruptured wall after removing the herniation( microdiscectomy) thanks
Outpatient she said? I was told might stay in hospital several days.
Thank you to everyone in the comments for sharing their stories. I'm getting this surgery tomorrow and I came here freaking out and now I feel like I'll actually get my life back.
Pls Send me your phone number, pls 🙏

how was it?
1 week update! The surgery went amazing!!! Woke up crying happy tears because the leg pain was completely gone. Hadn't realized how much pain I was in until it was gone. Taking it slow and wearing a back brace but I'm thrilled
How u feel@@kenakins
A Dr. Cantor in Florida now does this but he uses an Ultrasonic Scalpel that will cut bone BUT it will NOT cut nerves or soft tissue. Imagine that!
Antidepressants made me severely suicidal. All that worked was high dose pregabalin and a suboxone patch. I would never get a spinal cord stimulator in my very healthy back.

Fyi i had an injection first which was AMAZING! But steroids are so bad to repeat all thebtine Having this done in Hershey on Feb 15th 2024 and my surgeon is having me stay over one night. 3 days without driving and then hopefully back to my driving job 😊
🤔
The part where the spacer is inserted....my body just shuddered in relief 😅 it just looks like it would feel good 👌🏼
I've been attempting to explain this to surgeons and doctors for nearly a decade only to be looked at like I'm crazy. I can't live my life laying on the couch or in bed. Well done to this clinic for using logic and diagnosing patients properly!!

WOW 😮😮😮♥️
I had the Intracept Procedure done in Colorado in January 2023 by my pain management surgeon. I had been suffering with chronic / severe lower back pain for over 10 years that was interrupting every area of my life and was causing me daily suffering and was causing me to miss out on life. I am so happy to say the procedure worked for me and I have now been pain free for 3 months! I just wanted to leave a review for anyone else considering having the procedure done. I was very hesitant to get my hopes up because I was worried it might not work. It doesn't work for everyone and every situation. (The only other option I was given was spinal fusion, which is scary!) My recovery time took much longer than most people. I understand most people experience positive results much sooner and can return to work faster than I did. I drive an airport shuttle and am required to load luggage up to 70lbs at an airport as part of my current job responsibilities. That is very different than someone who is working at a desk job obviously. Due to the lifting requirements of my job, and because my recovery took much longer than most people, I ended up being out of work for 3 months recovering from the procedure. (The length of my recovery is not typical, my understanding is most people are back to work within a week or two.) It took me about 7 weeks after the surgery before I began to experience pain reduction. It wasn't until after 3 months that I began to feel lasting pain relief. I still did have some pain off an on until about 5 months after the procedure. I also had intensive physical therapy. Now I feel like a 'normal person' and I'm able to do my job without pain, able to sleep without pain, I'm able to sit without pain! I'm not taking any over the counter medication anymore because I don't need it! If you're only options are dealing with terrible chronic back pain, trying Intracept or having a spinal fusion, if your doctor thinks you are a good candidate for Intracept I highly recommend it! It is worth trying, save spinal fusion surgery as a last resort if it doesn't work. I will still have to continue my physical therapy exercises for life also, in order to have stronger muscles to support my back. I hope my review helps someone thinking about this procedure. I'm not paid for leaving this review, I just wanted to share my experience.
If this causes my back to spasm, I wont be able to walk out of the room and will take 2 or more weeks to heal. Not sure I want to induce this painful condition for an MRI.
My father was diagnosed with a herniated disc a couple years ago and was in so much pain. He had a L5-S1 Laminectomy and fusion done and it did not help much. He had pain shooting down his legs and feet and was on opioids until he passed. RIP Dad.
Does this procedure leave the spinal cord susceptible to being damaged?
How long is the recovery process? How long do you have to be off work and not able to lift stuff?
They told me only 2 months but I am taking a year off I don't want to go through this again

Surgery for a bulge or protruding herniation is pointless in my opinion. I had a 2 cm herniation EXTRUSION which means the disc was ruptured so I needed to have the surgery. Traction as in spinal decompression would work for a normal bulge or herniation. Imo. Surgery should be last resort.
I will be having this surgery in 2 days time please any advice for me?
How did it go?
I'm having next week.. are you ok? I'm chickening out
How much does a procedure like this cost?

Can you please tell me how long the examination took? I am quite claustrophobic!
Im crying watching this im so much pain and depressed
How common are Modic changes? it seems a lot of people are suffering from it, including myself
Can they do it on the cervical spine?
I believe so, talk with your pain management surgeon about it.
Thats very scary
I was am 64 and was diagnosed in 2018 with level 1 severe stenosis, s4/5, and four years of Pilates, walking, stretching, biking, bought me time. Until now. Last few months, I could no longer walk more than 100 meters before my legs gave way. I had the microdisectomy this morning in Germany and walking around the room this afternoon I feel immediate improvement, no sciatica, more solid -just operation pain which is less than hernia or knee surgery. Find a surgeon who specializes in the procedure and feel confident in moving ahead when the time comes.
Wie ist es jetzt? How is it now? ❤
My brother is getting ready for this.. he asked my opinion as I'm a nurse but I'm not versed in orthopedics..he's hesitant .. a little overweight.. I don't know how to advise.. I'm afraid for his pain level.. he had many comirbidities..
Are you glad you had the surgery?
